About Us

Poppy Seed Kids, Incorporation is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation, founded by, and composed of, State employees, to establish and oversee the childcare center at 651 Bannon Street, Sacramento, CA 95811, May Lee State Office Complex (MLSOC). MLSOC is located near downtown Sacramento and was built specifically for the children of participating State entities represented by the different departments located at MLSOC and nearby.

The Corporation’s mission is to ensure each child receives quality childcare in a warm, caring, and nurturing environment that promotes inclusivity, diversity, and early childhood development in a fun and safe environment. The Corporation considers the total development of the child, including social, emotional, physical, creative, and cognitive abilities. Teachers will plan curricula that include art, music, science, math, and emergent literacy.

The Corporation values positive relationships among all children and adults to encourage each child’s sense of individual worth and belonging as a part of a community. The Corporation recognizes the diversity of California’s communities and welcomes all families. The Corporation insists on using developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate and effective teaching approaches. In addition, the Corporation values the nutrition and health of children and strives to protect children and staff from illness and injury.
